The event's intent is to expand opportunities for girls and boys, expose them to what adults in their lives do during the work day, show them the value of their education, and give them an opportunity to share how they envision their future.
There will not be any institution-wide activities on April 23. Individual VPUs, however, who wish to mark the day are encouraged to host their own activities using their conference rooms and common areas.
From past experience, we offer the following advice to those of you who plan to organize your own event:
Enlist plenty of coordinators -- a diverse group in terms of grade, gender, and nationality -- to help with preparation and implementation.
Consider partnering with another VPU to share the work and maximize your resources.
Create substantive activities for the children. There is a website containing suggestions for activities.
Build part of your day around the Bank's website, which has games and quizzes, as well as information, on development topics.
Remember you are responsible for supervising your children -- they should not move about the building without an adult.
Advise Restaurant Associates if you plan to take more than 10 to 15 children at a time to a Bank cafeteria.
